Broader Euro Area Data Extends to 2026
Since Bulgaria adopted the euro on Jan. 1, 2026, the euro area’s membership has expanded to include 21 countries. Data through December 2025 reflect the previous 20-member configuration, whereas figures from January 2026 incorporate the larger group. The European Union’s statistical system employs a chain-index formula whenever the euro area membership changes. This methodology ensures that inflation series accurately represent the current composition while preserving continuity with earlier data.
Eurostat plans to release the comprehensive harmonised consumer-price data for August on Sept. 17, 2026. The subsequent flash estimate for September inflation is scheduled for Oct. 2. The harmonised index monitors variations in prices paid by households for consumer goods and services. Annual inflation compares current prices to those of the same month in the previous year, whereas monthly inflation reflects the change from the previous month, offering insight into short-term price movements across the euro zone.
